Friday Favorites: The First Week of March

We had a pretty good week.  I feel like I accomplish so little in a day so I'm always thankful for these recaps that remind me of all the stuff I do get done and how those little bits of work here and there really do add up!

It was just Evan and I home on Friday; Alec was at school and Ian was at work.  We quickly moved through his schoolwork and headed out hiking in the sunshine... where I left my camera in the car and didn't take a single photo!

I somehow found time to rearrange the kitchen drawers and clean out the old junk drawer.  I think this is the first time in my adult life that I don't have a single junk drawer in the house.

We woke to snow on Saturday that soon switched over to rain.

Ian and my husband both headed of to work and my mother in law came over to ride with Alec and I to his karate class. She used to go watch him all the time and hasn't been able to see him in karate for such a long time.

Evan and I went for a walk in the drizzling rain in the late afternoon and I took a quick ride with my husband to the hydro before we began making dinner.

I had lots of fun Sunday finishing up my latest novel, mixing up some chocolate chip cookies, and playing around with one of my new Stampin' Up! stamp sets.

We ended our afternoon with a Ranger ride out on the trails and stopped to watch Ian run the excavator clearing stumps for a bit.

Alec had school on Monday and after I dropped him off the other boys and I settled down to work on schooling. It was another very rainy day!  We were done nice and early and Ian headed out to clear more stumps but ended up welding a new step on the loader instead when the old one rusted off on him.

I did some laundry and watched a few TV shows before picking Alec up.  I read a few more pages in my book and admired my latest manicure while waiting.

He had been making cakes at school and ended up getting red velvet cake batter all over his white chef's coat.  I felt so satisfied when it came out sparkling clean from the laundry!

We ate tacos for dinner and enjoyed the most beautiful sunset!

Ian headed off to work on Tuesday and after I dropped Alec off at school Evan and I decided to play hooky from his schoolwork and head to the grocery store instead.  I then spent my morning in the kitchen making a salad, cutting up fruit, and getting the cabbage shredded for our egg roll in a bowl we were making for dinner (Thanks, HOLLY!).   The sun was shining but with the wind-chill temps were below zero so we skipped another day of hiking.

I also mixed up some kitchen spice mixes to have on hand-- taco seasoning, Italian dressing mix, & cream of anything soup mix.

My mom picked Alec up from school while I went to go get a hair cut then as I was cooking dinner my husband called. He forgot that he and our younger two boys also had hair appointments that evening. I fed the boys a quick supper and sent them on their way.

All three boys were home on Wednesday and had a shortened day of school.  I was supposed to sneak out in the morning to go get my bloodwork done but I ended up getting caught up in making some cards using more of my new products.

Alec was assigned making cuts with his knives and practiced on our potatoes.

As soon as we were all done lunch we headed out hiking. It was beautiful and near 50! We hiked for just over an hour.  The trail had a bit of snow and ice in just a few spots but for the most part is was a beautiful trail.

Ian headed off to work on Thursday and I dropped Alec off for a half- day of school.  I spent my morning on the computer looking up some vacation information and trying to get some doctor's appointments set up.  Then we settled in to get Evan's schoolwork done.

We went for a quick 40 minute hike before I flew home to drop him off and headed out to pick Alec up at school.  Today's trails were much snowier than yesterdays!

I arrived just as he texted to ask if he could stay until 2 and help a senior with her kitchen project. I knew it was a good learning experience so I said sure but asked him to please let me know BEFORE I arrive next time.  He gets to go into school tomorrow too to help this same senior finish up and present her dishes.

I ran to get my ring cleaned and inspected and then headed home for a late lunch, switched the laundry around, and then headed right back out to pick Alec up.

It was another week that just flew by so fast!  How was your week?

  11. I have weeks like that as well when I don't feel like I got a lot done. I need to tackle some of our drawers. Yum! Your cookies look so tasty. I love all of the outdoor pics and how many hikes you go on. We try to take the boys as often as we can, but I imagine it will get a little easier with them as they get older. Your manicure looks so good! I need to do my nails bad. I just looked at all of the chipped nail polish and said, oh this has to go. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  14. It's been a busy week here and we have a quick trip to north Tennessee for the weekend and a wedding. Love your pretty nails and that sunset is beautiful. We have been playing outside a lot more this week and had dinner on the porch a few times. I am going to have to do something for mosquitoes this summer so we can enjoy dinner outdoors often.

    1. The tan nails were painted using LS Colors Gel polish in a shade called vanilla latte. The glittery nails used some color street nail wraps that I don't have anymore so I can't remember the name...
