Monthly Musings in March: Spring Fashions

This month's Monthly Musings with Patty and Holly is all about spring fashion essentials... which seems kind of far off for those of us living in New England.  This time of winter always seems to last forever as my spring fever starts kicking in and I just want warm weather and lighter weight clothing again.

1.  What are your spring must have pieces? I like flowy long sleeve blouses and lighter weight sweaters with jeans for spring.  Though often I need rain gear and boots to slog through the mud.  Once the snow starts melting (usually accompanied by lots of rain) we have quite a mud season here.

2. What are you spring must have accessories? My flip flops and sunglasses!  I also like flowy scarves to dress up my plain long sleeve tops. The minute it gets warm enough (and dry enough) I break out my flip flops and wear them; even if only around the house.  I have sensitive eyes so I do wear sunglasses year round but particularly feel that they are a quintessential spring item.

3. How do you transition your wardrobe to spring? Painstakingly slow.  I have learned the hard way not to pack winter gear away too early because winter often has a second or even third coming.  We have had snow on Mother's day many a time!  And yet each year it's all I can do not to pack everything away at the first sign of sun and warm weather.

4. What are your favorite colors to wear in spring? Lighter shades of blue and green mixed in with some pinks and purples.

5. Any spring fashion advice? Here in New England spring is still all about layers... just lighters ones! I often start the day with a cardigan or jean jacket; something that I can shed as it warms up by mid- day.

6. Do you change up your makeup in spring? Not really, it's so rare for me to wear makeup of any kind year round that I don't change much from season to season.  At most I might have a lighter shade of tinted lip gloss.

7. Do you change your skincare in spring? Nope, though I do add in sunscreen once we start spending more than an hour outside each day.

8. Do you have a favorite spring scent? The way the earth smells after a spring rain when the sun comes out to warm it up-- I just love that smell!  That means the snow is gone and warm weather is on the way.

9. Best budget tips for updating your wardrobe? Buy one or two new statement pieces.  I love a new pocketbook.

10. Do you think you will be wearing dresses this spring? Unless we end up traveling to a warm weather destination I won't be wearing a dress this spring.  It has to be really hot before I break out dresses and skirts.

  2. You are my people! I felt a little hesitant about joining in on this musing because I'm so not about fashion but I could have written your blog post! And yes to the "painstakingly slow" about transitioning to spring wear. Last year we had a big snow in May. Ugh.

    1. LOL. I like fashion but I am definitely not all about fashion. We've had snow in May before too and I am always stunned when it happens.

    1. Yep there is a lot of overlap in our seasons. I can remember a few 4th of July's huddle under sweatshirts, jeans, and blankets.

    1. Me neither. I used to be but they seem to matter less and less to me the older I get.

  10. That's definitely true that you just don't know how long you'll need your winter gear. When we lived in England, there were several times I wore sweaters in the summer!
