Friday Favorites: More and More Snow

What a week! It seemed like every single time I turned around it was snowing.  I love the beauty of snow but I really do not enjoy the cold as much as I might try to embrace this season of life.

Alec got his OSHA certification on Friday!  All three boys had a half- day of school and we spent our afternoon cleaning house. I finally set time aside to work on all my Valentine's day cards.  We had a bit of snow flurries of and on mixed in with some rain so it was the perfect day to snuggle up inside.

My husband offered to take Alec to karate on Saturday morning.  Once they got back home we had lunch and then my husband, Ian, and I headed out snowshoeing.  We were out there for a good hour and half.  I had teased my husband bringing along his giant backpack but it came in handy when I stripped off my hat, gloves, and ski pants 1/2 way through.  I have yet to figure out how to dress just right for snowshoeing.

After showering and changing my husband and I headed out for a date night!  We went to eat at Uno Pizzeria and Grill.  Ian called out for and picked up pizzas to bring home to his brothers.  It's so handy having another driver in the house!

My husband and I ended the night going grocery shopping & checking out a new grocery store-- I know we're wild and crazy.

We were expecting a bit of a snowstorm on Sunday so my husband, myself, and Evan headed out early for a nice long walk.  We walked for a good hour before snow started falling.  By the time we arrived home it was snowing in earnest.  We had stopped to check the turbines on the way home and I snapped a photo of the covered bridge in the snow.

Ian and my husband had to run to town to pick up the sander and spent the afternoon plowing and sanding the road and our driveway.  A few cars had slid off the road on our street and they used the loader to pull them out of the snowbank.  They said it was real slick out and they too kept bouncing off snowbanks and sliding.  We easily got another 8" of snow by dinnertime even though we were only supposed to get 3-5".

Monday my husband was up at 4:30 to head out plowing. He woke me up and I discovered that Alec had a 2 hour delay to his day.  I decided the rest of us would start school later too and I enjoyed a lazy morning of working on the blog and taking photos of our beautiful sunrise and all our snow.

Ian was out plowing until 9 so that's when our school day started. Alec logged in at 9:30 and all three boys were done by noon.  After lunch Ian headed out to work on his jet ski while Evan and I headed out on a short walk and Alec went sledding.  The snow is up to our knees!

Evan hates the snow and wishes we would move south!  Right there with you kid...

We were getting another 3-5" on Tuesday so Alec's school decided to have everyone work virtually.  Ian headed to work and the snow did indeed begin falling in earnest by 10:30.  Alec and Evan had both finished their school work by then though Alec still had to make homemade oven baked French Fries working on his knife cuts.  They were delicious; I did have a few.

I worked on my puzzle, read several chapters in a few books, and made challah bread to go with our turkey/ noodle soup for dinner.

Alec had school IN THE BUILDING on Wednesday.  Not sure how the roads would be we left a little early.

After dropping him off at school the other two boys and I finished up all their schoolwork.  I had about an hour before I needed to pick up Alec so I worked on my nails, worked on my puzzle, and did a bit of reading.

After picking Alec up he and I had lunch and then finished up my puzzle before we all piled into the car to go snowshoeing together.  The snow is so deep that we only made it 40 minutes before calling it quits.

Evan refused to wear snowshoes and went hiking instead

One of Alec's snowshoes fell off and he decided to just carry it

Ian headed into work on Thursday while Alec was remote learning for his 1/2 day.  Evan and I tackled a couple of subjects after I made a big batch of pancakes.

Alec worked on frosting the mini cake he brought home from school yesterday.  He decided to try and pour melted chocolate over it and use some pink frosting on top.

How was your week?

  12. The snow just keeps on coming, doesn't it? I can't believe how much y'all have gotten. It's looking like we won't be getting any this weekend as originally forecasted so we're a little bummed. I hope y'all enjoy your weekend!

    1. It is so helpful (and sometimes stressful!) having another driver. I just need to get him to go to the store for me; something he swears he won't do until he can go in without a mask on.

  14. Agree that the snow is pretty, but unless you live in it, the mess is often overlooked! Pushing a shopping cart through that sloppy brown slush, or filling your car with gas in the whipping wind are the worst for me. Glad you are able to get out and enjoy the beauty of it!

    1. Yes! I dread grocery shopping the most this time of year; pushing a cart through it is awful.

  15. You live in a really neat area where you are able to go for those walks and hikes. The snow looks beautiful but sure is a lot of it! I need to work on my puzzles, it's been too long! And that challah bread reminds me of the year where I didn't realize my mom's recipe said two loaves so my loaf looked like a big turkey lol!

  18. The snow looks so pretty! But I agree, the cold can certainly get old after a while. I don't think it is possible to dress correctly for being out in the cold! I always end up too cold or too hot!. And I'm with you on trying a new grocery store! I will drive to a different town to go grocery shopping just for something different! Hope you have a great weekend!

  22. Hi Joanne. You live in a wonderland of beauty! Wonderful photos. I think I have a story (which oddly includes a recipe) you and your family would enjoy. Our kids were younger, but that would not matter and I promise you - they would love this recipe. I've shared it widely with our kids scouting troops and even those who don't really like pancakes (yea they exist) were nuts for this recipe. I hope you'll check it out and let me know how it goes over. It's weird, but just give them a chance.

  27. We don't get snow often but when we do, we tend to get a ton of it. In our area, we don't have the infrastructure to handle even just a few inches of snow. Get two inches on the valley floor and the entire metro area comes to a screeching halt! Right now we are on day four of snow and no one is leaving their homes for anything. They can't. We're in an area with only a half a dozen snow plows for this entire metro area, which is pretty huge. (from Salem, Oregon up to Vancouver, Washington)

    1. I think we have half a dozen plows and snow removal machines just on our road alone! We are well used to snow upon snow upon snow; it's just been a few years since we got so much.

  28. Hi Joanne, I love snow and although I've never worn snow shoes I did spend a lot of time walking in the snow when I lived in Russia. I'm now in Bulgaria and fortunately we also have snowy winters here, I really love it and couldn't imagine going back and living in my native country where it doesn't even really get cold! (I'm Australian). Thanks for sharing your lovely photos, they're beautiful.

  29. Joanne, I really like your adorable Valentine's cards! You are so creative. And the snowy pictures are all so beautiful. I have to say though that I am quite over the snow! We have so much snow piled up here that there is no where to put new snow that just keeps coming our way! I am ready for a warm front to move in and melt it all away. I am missing the green grass! Thanks for linking with me!

  30. Sounds like a great week! My husband and I haven't been on a date night in a long time. Not since they shut down indoor dining the first time. I've been loving the snow this year. Not matter how much it snows I just keep enjoying it. This is the first year that I've enjoyed it this much and I think it's because I'm stuck at home. When I was commuting to work, I despised the snow. I'm talking deep hatred. But now I just get to sit in and enjoy it, working from my home office.
