Organizing My Bathroom Closet

I have spent a year now with my new pantry organization system and I just love it! I knew the next area I NEEDED to tackle was my bathroom closet.  I have always struggled to keep it organized but with the extra shampoo, mouthwash, and other things we've been stocking up on it is even more of a mess than usual.

Here is what our bathroom closet looked like to begin with; not bad but could be better.

I started where I start any re-organizing project-- I emptied everything out of the cabinet and took stock.

I threw away anything expired or old or that we hadn't used in a long time.  Then I began grouping like items together.

I debated about what type and size bins to buy/use and after a lot of thought and research I settled on these 16x8x5" bins.  They're supposed to be used for food storage according to the description on Amazon but two of them fit perfectly on my shelving!  No more spaces around the back and sides to tuck things into.  I always knew the bins I picked the first time were not large enough.

I sorted our items into categories; played around with shelving height to get everything right where I wanted it and then made up some labels for the bins:

  • Medicine
  • First aid
  • His (my husband's everyday supplies)
  • Hers (my everyday supplies)
  • Extra supplies
  • Travel bags
  • Travel supplies
  • Cotton balls and Qtips

I adjusted the shelves so that the bins fit well on each shelf and we could grab items out of them and put them away without having to pull the bins out.

Make sure to stop by and check out these other organizing projects!

    1. I find that deciding on bins and finding the right size for the job are often the hardest parts of organizing (for me anyway).

    1. Thanks! Labels make me happy... plus it helps keep the family accountable for following along and not just throwing things willy nilly into the cabinet.

  9. It is so nice to have an organized closet. I used clear shoe bins a few years ago, and I am so happy to say they have really helped keep things in order.

  11. I had tried to organize my bathroom closet a while back and I see that the problem I had was that the bins were not clear so I was always frustrated. Good idea. I also like that the scale gets put away and not kept out. Pinned.

    1. Yes, I find that what the bins are made out of make a huge difference. If the sides are short enough to see over they don't need to be clear or if I want those contents to be out of sight I make sure NOT to pick clear but when it's something I use all the time and need to see clear is the way to go.

  14. I have those same white baskets in our main bathroom that my husband uses. He can NOT keep things straight in the baskets. They're just a free for all toss a shot. Sigh.

    1. Hence the labels! LOL. My husband knows that his basket can be a train wreck but I need the others to be kept organized.

  21. Organization before and after pictures are so satisfying! Though, you're right the before didn't look bad! I have so many organization ideas in my head that I am determined to get accomplished this year! We'll see how that goes.

  22. A+! I think the thing I like best, aside from the bins being a little larger, is that they are clear. You can see better what's in there. I have a mismatched lot of plastic containers for all of that same stuff. And they are all opaque. Different colors and sizes, too. Maybe I will follow your good lead and do the same thing. I like the uniformity. All of that stuff you have in your closet is either under our lavatory or in drawers in the cabinetry under the lavatories. I like it in some ways but the drawers are very small and shallow. Thanks for the inspo.

    1. I like that they are clear too. It has made seeing what is in them so much easier than the old white bins.
