Making A Dollar Store Sign My Own

This month's Dollar Store craft challenge was a lot of fun!

The dollar store had all sorts of decorations and supplies out for fall and I just love this time of year.  In the past few years I had started getting away from orange pumpkins in our home decor and began using more pretty shades of white & green instead.

I decided to take a cute little pumpkin sign from the Dollar Tree and make it my own by giving it a complete makeover.

Here is what the sign looked like when I bought it; pretty cute for just $1!

I popped off the tin maple leaf and rafia bow then sanded down the glitter letters until I had a smooth board to work with.

I painted my pumpkin in shades of light green and white then added a brown stem.

I used my Cricut and some permanent vinyl to make a Happy Harvest sign.

For now it's hanging in my garden (as it's a sunny day) but I don't think it will hold up well to the elements so I've been looking around for a cute place to hang it in the house or under the deck/ porch.

  6. That is really cute. I do love the color teal for fall. I haven't started decorating yet. I plan on decorating on the first day of fall this year. I do remember decorating weeks before the beginning of fall in the past when the kids were little though. :)

    1. I typically do that too but I felt like I needed to get all those household chores done earlier this year.

  7. This is such a good idea, it opens up a whole world of possibilities. You don't need to be restricted by the colour schemes of decor available in the shops at all do you?

  11. So cute!! Dollar Tree has the best things for fall. Love how you took their cute pumpkin and made it even cuter. Love that green you used. Could you just spray your finished project with a gloss or matte varnish? I do that with most of my wooden decor that I set outside.

    1. I was thinking that would work too; I just found some spray varnish in our basement this weekend.
