A Pumpkin Garden Flag Using the Cricut

This month's Pinterest challenge was all about Pumpkins and when I saw this pin I just knew I had to make a flag for my garden.  Did you know that you can buy pre-made blank flags from Amazon?  I think I might make a whole collection of seasons for a Christmas gift for someone.

The pin led right to the website with a full tutorial.  I round this free SVG file and I knew I had the perfect rust colored glittered iron on vinyl that I wanted to use.

I wasn't sure if my piece of vinyl would be big enough so I cut the file out with plain white paper first and set my vinyl over it to make sure it would work and it was perfectly sized.

As I was cutting out the vinyl I was peeling my practice piece off the Cricut mat when I happened to pull all the outer layer off and found I really liked the inner layer of the image better.  So when my Cricut finished cutting I weeded away those sections I didn't want to iron onto my flag.

  1. I love garden flags and yours is quite adorable for Fall! I didn't know Amazon has blank ones but I'm beginning to think, "what is it they don't have?" I keep saying I'm going to look into getting a Cricut - there are so many lovely things you can do with one! And your garden flag is making me consider one even more!

    1. I often think that Amazon has just about everything too! I wouldn't have even thought to look for blank flags at all; I figured I'd have to sew one if I wanted one. This was just perfect!

  5. I remember when I first began blogging, I wanted a Cricut so badly because making signs was so popular but they were so expensive. But I don't think I would have known how to operate one! HA! But I love the idea of making your own garden flag. So cool.

    1. They are versatile but I can get quite frustrated with it; not using it all the time I often forget how to do some fairly simple things. Thank goodness for Google and YouTube as I am always searching for answers.

    1. I love a little sparkle and the best part of the glitter SVG is that all the glitter is tucked safely behind the vinyl so it doesn't shed.

  10. That's just lovely. So this is like the reverse of the design really, you've kept the kits you'd normally remove?
I'm loving the idea of a gift of a set of seasonal flags, like a gift that keeps on giving!!

    1. Yep, I basically kept the negative of the image. Wouldn't a whole set of seasonal flags be so fun?? I am already trying to decide which images to use!

  11. How cute that the pumpkin is made out of a sunflower. Such a truly clever design. I have a very old Cricut and don't know how well it would cut anything more than paper...it even struggles with paper some days. Sure would like to experiment, though. Adorable project, my friend.

    1. I'm not sure the old Cricuts could cut vinyl; my old one used to struggle too. Plus the new cricuts don't cut through the plastic coating on the vinyl.
