Our Trip to the Sunflower Farm

We took a trip to Buttonwood Farm last week to see their sunflowers.  Proceeds from the benefit go to the Make a Wish foundation and it's always amazing to see the more than 14 acres of blooms.

Approaching the cutting field we could see rows of corn (behind us not in the photo) and rows of pumpkins as they are already preparing for the corn maze and fall.

The picking field had 5 varieties of sunflowers and each bloom cost $2. It took me forever to decide which ones to pick.

Once we had our blooms we headed over to the walking field; typically this field has hay rides of all sorts for kids and families but they turned them into one way walking paths this year so families could still take photos with the flowers in the background.

We ended our day with some freshly made ice cream.  It was a hot day and the ice cream stand was quite popular with everyone.

I put our sunflowers in nice cold water as soon as we got home and they perked right up.  I just love the bright blue vase against the yellow/ orange blooms.

    1. They sure are! I love that they grow so nice and tall too and you can feel like you are all alone in the field even when there are lots of families around you.

  5. They have several sunflower farms near us too. I've never been but they look fun. The first summer we moved into our home, I planted a couple of packs of sunflower seeds in our yard and they took! I might do that again. It is so easy and they are so pretty.

    1. I love sunflowers but knew from year's past that the fresh flowers don't hold up to the heat well and our 45 minute or so drive home so I went in with the intention of just buying 3... not knowing they had 5 varieties to pick from!

  8. We have a sunflower field nearby but I think it gets pretty crowded. We haven't gone in a few years.

    1. I was hesitant to go since this is usually a really packed event and it's a good 45 minutes or so from the house if we had to turn around but there really weren't all that many people around compared to most normal years.

  10. I love sunflowers! There was a farm near us where people could go and take pictures but last year it was overrun with rude people who basically killed all the sunflowers and caused accidents parking illegally so it's closed now :(
