Never Fail BBQ Meatloaf Recipe

I found this recipe years and years ago in an old Betty Crocker Cookbook and while I have put a few personal twists on it I find it is one of those classic recipes that just never seems to fail being a crowd pleaser.

Ingredients:

2 cups ground beef; I like to use 93% lean when I can find it
1 cup skim milk
1 Tablsepoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon dried sage
1 Tablespoon mustard
1 large egg, beaten
3 slices bread; I like to throw mine in the food processer and turn them into fresh breadcrumbs
2 Tablespoons minced dried onion
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup BBQ sauce

In a medium bowl combine beef, milk, Worcestershire sauce, sage, mustard, egg, bread, dried onion, and garlic.  Mix well and shape into loaf pan.  I typically do this early in the morning and then cover it and put it in the fridge.

When it's time to start cooking, I preheat the oven to 350 and pour BBQ sauce over the top of the meatloaf.  Then I pop the loaf pan into the preheated oven and bake for an hour and a half or until a thermometer placed in the center of the loaf reads 160 degrees.

When I take it out of the oven, I like to let it rest for 5 minutes or so before slicing and serving.

This time we served the meatloaf with some oven roasted broccoli and my Weight Watcher's smashed potato recipe.

  5. Looks like amazing comfort food, especially for these rainy dreary days! I’ve never heard of putting BBQ sauce on top instead of ketchup, but I love the caramelized taste of baked BBQ sauce.

    1. Me too; of course I don't like or use ketchup at all so BBQ is kind of my go to in most any recipe.

  6. I have been mixing a little BBQ sauce into the meatloaf with ketchup and brown sugar. Then pouring a little of the same sauce on top toward the end of baking the meatloaf. Mmmm, that might need to be dinner tomorrow. Pinning your mashed potato recipe. I don't have almond milk or Brummel spread right now but could try to get PC to get some at the commissary. They look mouth-watering good!!

  10. I found a similar recipe years ago in a cook book and my family now prefers the bbq sauce version over the ketchup version so I still make it. So yummy. Thanks for sharing with us each week at #HomeMattersParty
