Utah's National Parks Trip: Day 3 (Arches)

Image
Monday, our 3rd day in Utah, we headed out to Arches National Park nice and early. In fact I think we were through the gate by 7:15 or so after taking a quick photo by the park sign.  It's a very dramatic entrance to the park with switchbacks and high cliff walls and as soon as you turn the last corner all signs of civilization fall away. It was stunning.  I don't think you can see it but there is a car where the light colored rock meets up against the dark- that's the road   We drove straight to the very back of the park to an area known as Devil's Garden. We only hiked part of the trail though.   tunnel arch       The weather was perfect, sunny but cool and breezy. We saw a deer, a hummingbird, a blue bird, and some beetles and ants.  landscape arch longest arch in America at 306 feet opening; 6 feet in diameter at its narrowest point This is the point we turned around; I refused to climb up the top part of this trail on my hands and knees ...

    1. That's been our routine for years; my boys have never even wanted to try staying up to see the ball drop.

    1. I have never had a homemade turtle but I love the store bought ones and if time has taught me anything it's that homemade anything are usually even better.

  3. I was talking to my mom about going to bed early on NYE. We both just looked at each other while the other TEN people in the house ran around like crazy people. When I was a kid NYE was a huge family party, and I've tried over the years to evoke that same feeling with my kids. We've done pretty well over the last few years, but this year I was more tired than I've been in a long time. We muscled through it, but I'm thinking next year I may take a mid-day nap.

    1. My boys have never ever stayed up to ring in the New Year; I've always felt kind of bad about that fact but this year they told me in no uncertain terms that they just don't see the point in staying up! I guess they're more like my husband and I than I realized. I always wanted to stay up when I was a kid and we did host a few NYE parties before we had kids.
