What I've Been Reading in October

I didn't read all that much month mostly because I had such a hard time finding good books.  While I enjoyed the books I did read there weren't any that really stood out as being super fantastic.  You know those kind of books that you just can't put down and devour in a few days because you just have to know what's going to happen next?  I'm still on my search for my next favorite book but in the meantime here's what I've been reading.

1.  The Cast by Danielle Steel-- When Kait, a super successful "Dear Kait" column writer tries her hand at writing a bible for a new TV series she has no idea the twists and turns her life is about to take! With her kids grown and out of the house, Kait really enjoys working on set and getting to know so many new people.

2.  Halsey Street by Naima Coster-- Penelope moves back to Brooklyn to care for her aging father even though she was happy to leave her past behind her.  Rather than move in with her father she takes an apartment in a nearby building-- Honestly? I had such a hard time making it through this story that I'm still not finished with it.

3.  A Million Little Things by Susan Mallery--When Zoe finds herself locked in her own attic with her cat and realizes that no one would miss her for days she vows to make changes in her life. Her friend Jen is so preoccupied with her new baby and Zoe recently broke up with a man she's spent the last 5 years of her life with.  But as Zoe starts reaching out and making new friends she realizes her life is also becoming more complicated.

4.  Last Summer: A Novel by Kerry Longsdale-- When Ella Skye wakes up in the ER she can't remember that she was pregnant or the accident that landed her in the hospital.  Months later still trying to recover her memories she takes on a writing assignment to interview Nathan Donovan; a man she supposedly spent almost two weeks with the previous summer even though she can't remember that either.

5.  Home Again by Kristin Hannah-- Maddy is a heart doctor specializing in transplants struggling to raise her teenage daughter alone.  Frances, the local priest, is Maddy's oldest and dearest friend and he's struggling with his faith.  When Angel is brought back into their lives Maddy and Frances are thrown back to memories of their childhood.  Angel, who is the father of Maddy's baby and Frances younger brother has been sick and may die if not for a transplant.  All struggle with Angel's arrival and the feelings they've been trying to ignore for most of their lives.

6.  What Happens in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand-- I know so many people were critical of Winter in Paradise when it came out but I really enjoyed it. Having spent part of my honeymoon in the Virgin Islands and always having wanted to go back I really enjoyed reading the descriptions of her this new setting.  I had to find out what happened in this next book as Irene is determined to uncover the secrets of her husband's life and death.

    1. A Million Little Things was a very cute read; somewhat predictable but I did enjoy it. What Happens in Paradise was great but ended on a cliff hanger and now I can't wait for book #3 to be released!

    1. I really like her books too; this one was pretty neat and I was constantly trying to untangle the mystery of how she lost her memory since it was so selective.

    1. I did! I was pretty surprised since I didn't really LOVE anyone of them and I tend to read a bit slower when the books don't suck me in.

  12. I have both Winter and What Happens in Paradise from BOTM. I didn't love winter. I liked the change of setting from Nantucket, but I wasn't 100% with getting the follow-up. However, I have leaving a series unfinished so... I'm hoping to finish it before year end.

    1. I enjoyed Elin's new setting and characters; I think it was a bit more mystery than her readers are used to but I like a bit of mystery tied in... I can not wait for the last book in the series as I am really anxious to see how she wraps it all up.
