Friday Favorites: The Week It Seemed Like Everyone Was Sick

I try really hard to keep our Friday Favorites focused on the positive parts of our weeks-- you know?  My favorites… but this week was a struggle.  There were good moments but sometimes it can be hard to focus on them.  I'm not kidding when I labeled this "the week it seemed like everyone was sick."  I'm pretty sure I can safely say Ian was the only one who seemed perfectly healthy all week long.  Our rainy weather hasn't helped me feel any better either as we have not gotten out of the house since Sunday (even though it was cloudy)!  After 3 1/2 days of rain last week and 5 days of cloudy/rainy weather this week, I am ready for some sun.

After finishing up some quick schoolwork on Friday we headed out for a hike. It began raining as soon as we got in the car.  Undeterred we decided to head out for some shopping and by the time we finished running errands the rain had stopped and the sun even made an appearance!  After several days of rain I was so happy to see the sunshine.  We hiked to the top of Ross' Cliff.  It was a nice hour hike and we had some pretty spectacular views from the top.  Alec tried to make some chicken noodle soup from scratch for all of us for dinner but he accidentally added too much garlic and we ended up getting take out from Subway after we did groceries.

I spent Saturday morning in the kitchen getting (another) batch of chicken noodle soup started in the crock pot, cooking up a chicken/broccoli/& rice casserole for later in the week, tossing a salad, and cutting up all the fruits we bought.  Then I spent the afternoon in my craftroom working on t-shirt for a friend (I can't share a photo of the finished product because I don't think she's received it yet!) and planning a few new scrapbooking pages.

I had the whole house to myself on Sunday. My husband took the younger two boys to work planing boards while Ian was off with his grandfather.  I spent my day making scrapbook pages.  In the late afternoon Alec, my husband, and I whipped up some apple pies.

Our Monday plans got a bit messed up when my husband woke up not feeling well; I know he's really sick when he decides he can't go to work.  The boys and I powered through their schoolwork anyway and we canceled our plans to go for a walk in the woods since it was unbelievably windy and began raining.  I had a doctor's appointment in the afternoon that I was actually looking forward to; eager to get some answers... unfortunately we just ended up with more questions and I'll go for some more tests in another two weeks.  We ended our night with a few fun games though.  Evan, my husband and I played Clue and then Alec joined us for a few games of Harry Potter Scene It

Tuesday morning my husband was feeling better and headed off to work.  The boys and I completed all their schoolwork before we dropped Alec off at karate.  I went to run errands in the rain and got a call less than an hour later that he was feeling very sick.  He was so queasy most of the day but thankfully never ended up actually getting sick.  He even managed to eat and keep down some crackers and noodle soup before bed.  I spent much of my day hanging out with him in the living room and managed to get almost a month's worth of blogging pages sketched out and a good dozen of them up and scheduled for posting!  Alec, Evan and I ended our night watching Harry Potter and Prisoner of Azkaban and it was rather nice; I can't really remember the last time they wanted to watch a movie with me!

Alec woke feeling better Wednesday morning and even did all his schoolwork.  Evan's cough and cold symptoms seemed to be much better too and we had a good day.  It was raining again so we were stuck inside but the boys were perfectly happy to play games and watch TV.  I ran out to get my hair cut and our groceries for the week.

It wasn't all that surprising when we woke to more rain on Thursday.  I let the boys watch and play with their screens a bit longer than usual since I was busy making beef stew in the crock pot, throwing together a salad, and cutting up all the fresh fruit I had bought at the store.  They each completed their schoolwork quickly and worked together to clean our living room.  Alec made some fresh biscuits to go with our soup late in the afternoon.  They were the perfect compliment to the stew.

How was your week?

    1. Yes, apple pie sure did help us turn the week around. I am cautiously optimistic that everyone is finally healthy; now I'll just keep hoping it stays that way.

  5. Sorry you all have been sick. I hope you get answers from the doctor soon. It is so frustrating and anxiety producing to have to wait on results.

  6. I hope everyone feels better soon. I am full of cold at the moment and my girls are verging on having colds. This time of year is no fun with all the germs.
