Friday Favorites-- The Week I Started On Christmas

We had a much better week this week than last week.  Everyone stayed healthy and we had some pretty nice weather too.  We made sure to get out and enjoy it whenever we could.  I got a head start on the holidays.  It all started by making some cute ornaments for an ornament exchange and the next thing I knew I had Christmas card and gift list done, my cards completed and quite a few gift ideas already down.

It rained again on Friday for our 5th straight day of rain.  There were a few spots in the day where it looked like it might be clearing up but try as hard I could we could not get it together to get out during those rare moments.  I was so hoping to get in a quick hike or walk but we finished up our schoolwork instead and I got a call from one of my oldest and dearest friends.  I think we talked for close to an hour (if I had to guess) and we made plans for her and her kids to come up and visit on Monday!  That totally made up for the rainy yucky weather.  Ian made some homemade waffles for dinner and while I had no plans to eat any I just could not resist trying one.  He makes the best waffles!

On Saturday my husband headed off to work and Ian was out working his grandfather.  I honestly am not sure what the younger boys were doing... I worked in my craftroom just about all day.  I started working on some Christmas ornaments for an ornament exchange I'm doing and was so into the Christmas spirit that I decided to start making my cards too.  I ended up making 44 of them with just a few slight variations.  I love how they came out and can't wait to share them with family and friends.  My husband and I ran out to do a quick grocery shopping after dinner and we picked up what we needed for our company on Monday.

Sunday Alec put together a yummy dessert for our company-- I will definitely be sharing a recipe on the blog with this one!  It was a beautiful, sunny, fall day so we worked on putting all the patio & deck furniture away in the basement.  We cleaned up the yard and went for a nice hour long hike/walk before dinner.

I just love when the lake is still as glass!

I was up nice and early on Monday and got completely side tracked on JC Penney's website ordering cloths and boots (they had a sale buy 1 get 2 free and I stocked up on shoes!).  I then put together my white chicken chili in the crockpot for us moms for lunch and set the boys to work cleaning up the house for our company.  Alec finished off his dessert with some hot fudge and candy sprinkles.  We were having our driveway sealed and I actually remembered to move my car out of the way before our company arrived. We had the best time with our friends and Alec's dessert was a huge hit; how could it not be?  Just look at all those yummy layers!

We had a very short day of school before karate on Tuesday.  Once we were home and our schoolwork was done for the day, I kicked the kids out of the house and we wandered around the neighborhood and through the woods.

I was so glad we didn't have anything planned for Wednesday since it was 35 when we woke up!  I'm just not quite ready for it to be THAT cold yet.  Luckily it did warm up a bit and I had the boys put aside their schoolwork for an hour or so in order for us to squeeze in a hike before we got more rain.  We hiked at Pulaski and took one of our favorite trails in reverse; it's amazing how different it looks!  After lunch everyone finished up their schoolwork and we spent quite a lot of time on Amazon ordering all sorts of stuff-- seriously I think we all had at least a few things we "needed."

We were thankful we still had power on Thursday morning after the storm.  It was still a bit rainy and windy for most of the day and we did have our power blink off for about an hour in the late morning, but that we could handle just fine.  After the boys completed all their schoolwork, I worked on prepping dinner and cutting up fruits and veggies for the rest of the week.  I made this delicious stuffed acorn squash for my husband and I and with fat free cheese it was only 1 point!  We spent our night at the open house of the prospective high school Alec wants to go to next year.  I really need to get on making up a transcript for him!

    1. I used to start nice and early and really enjoyed the holidays more that way. The last few years it's felt like such a mad crush that I started dreading Chrismtas so I'm trying to get back to an easy, slow, enjoyable holiday season once again.

    1. I was thinking the same thing; but my boys are at that awkward stage where they really need to try them on.

    1. I haven't actually bought any gifts yet but am so thankful to at least know what I want to get (and since it's a lot of memberships and gift card it will be easy peasy even if I wait until much closer!).

  6. That dessert looks heavenly! I can't wait for the recipe. Also, are you going to do a post about your cards and ornaments? I'd love to see your process!

    1. It was so good! I will definitely be making a post about my ornaments as it's part of a blogger ornament exchange (It will be live on the blog Nov. 14th). I hadn't thought about making a post with my cards but I sure could.

  7. It has been raining so much here too (in fact it's raining right now) that we haven't been able to enjoy the fall season at all. Tomorrow it's suppose to be sunny and 63 so we are planning on hiking (our first all season). That dessert looks amazing and so do your Christmas Cards. I use to hand make all my Christmas cards, now I just do the photo card.

    1. We have been thrilled to finally have a break from the rain and I'm trying to squeeze in hikes all over the place. I had switched to photo cards for a few years when the boys were younger but found I missed that hands-on aspect of making my cards so just in the last year or two I've made more of an effort to get back into the crafty things.

  8. I enjoyed looking at the pretty photos of fall in your area. You are so organized to have your Christmas cards already made. Some bloggers already have their Christmas shopping done! I have just a few things bought. I was in an ornament exchange with bloggers a few times and that is always fun!

    1. I don't have a single gift bought but just knowing what I want to get is enough for me. We don't have a huge list of people to buy for and I'm mostly buying family gift cards that I don't want to buy until pretty close to Christmas anyway.
