Friday Favorites: Fall Colors are Slowly Fading

We got outside a lot this week and I am so glad too as we are surrounded by so much amazing color!  I can see it slowly fading around us as more and more leaves fall to the ground but with the light shining through those leaves that are left it's like we're walking in a magical land.

We met up with some friends of ours for a hike on Friday.  It was a bit chilly but the sun was shining so we sucked it up and headed out.  I am do glad we did too as it warmed up perfectly by the time we arrived.  We hiked for an hour and then spent another 30 minutes or so talking in the parking lot.  I spent most of the afternoon on the phone with my mom and got all caught up on her vacation south to visit my sister.  Then the doctor's office called and had to push my next ultrasound appointment back until Nov 22!  I am not ashamed to admit I cried.. I am in pain a lot of the time and really was looking so forward to getting answers... It's not their fault as it's my body/ menstrual cycle that keeps screwing up our plans but I was so frustrated and disappointed.  They're pretty positive I have uterine fibroids but don't want to schedule any sort of surgery until they know for sure what we're dealing with.  I just hope and pray nothing gets in the way of November's appointment.

Saturday was another beautiful sunny day and we had plans to get our family portrait done.  Since our appointment wasn't until much later in the day I spent my morning working on another ornament craft.  I also ran out to do a bit of shopping.  We loved our photographer and she showed us so many of the photos on the camera as she took them.  They look fabulous already and I can't wait to see what they look like once they are edited.  After pictures we headed to the Black Dog for dinner.  We had a yummy meal complete with dessert and then headed home for a family movie night.  We decided to re-watch National Treasure 2 and see if we recognized any of the scenes that were shot in the Black Hill and at Sylvan lake where we had hiked-- we did!

I worked on getting Alec's 7th and 8th grade transcript outlined on Sunday for the high school application form we're filling out.  My nephew flew back home with my parents and we wanted to see him before he was scheduled to fly back home so they all came over to visit and we enjoyed a wonderful home cooked meal together.

Monday we got just about every single school subject covered before heading out after lunch for a beautiful hike.  It was so warm out I only wore a long sleeved shirt!  It was great and the colors are so vibrant right now.

We spent a mostly quiet day at home on Tuesday.  Alec did have karate in the morning and for the first time he was called up to lead the class in warmups.  It was so great watching him step up to this new roll.  I think he enjoyed it.

We woke to a bit of rain on Wednesday.  After the boys tackled their schoolwork Ian left to go work with this grandmother on her lawn.  The younger boys and I made some caramel/candy apples.  They were delicious too!  We found time to squeeze in a little walk to the local park and the trees are just so pretty.  I am loving this weather... even if I was feeling pretty achy and miserable most of the day.

We had the sanitation workers coming to clean out our septic tank on Thursday so we settled in to do our schoolwork and wait.  After lunch I needed to run to the bank, the apple orchard, and I really wanted to squeeze in a hike somewhere too.  We decided to head to the Edwin Teale Memorial Sanctuary run by our local Audubon.  We hadn't been there in over 6 years and I really couldn't remember much about it other than we found some good trails to hike.  It was beautiful!

How was your week?

  6. Beautiful foliage, now that trees are finally turning. I'm so sorry to hear about the fibroids. I've heard they can be really painful. I hope they're able to figure it all out soon and remedy the situation.

  10. I'm glad you could finally get outside and enjoy the fall season. We've had such a miserable fall here too...so rainy and cold. We only got out once for a fall hike. I'm so sorry you've been ill! I can totally get what you're feeling. I was sick for a over a year many years ago, and it was just test after test after test before they finally figured out what was wrong with me. It was so frustrating. As for the "National Treasure" movie, we did the same thing we got back from South Dakota. And when we got back from visiting Arches National Park, we watched the beginning of one of the "Raiders of the Lost Ark" movies as that was filmed in Arches too!
