Friday Favorites-- Alec's Birthday Week

My middle guy became an official teenager this week and I just can't believe how fast the time flew right by.  We've had an extra fun week this week even with managing to get a lot of schoolwork done!

Here are some of our favorites from the week:

We had a fun little cupcake decorating party for him with a handful of friends last Friday and we're celebrating with family tonight.  We're also spending the day together just the two of us going out to lunch and browsing for as long as we'd like at Barnes and Noble.  I just love this annual tradition we started a few years ago!

Evan put together another Lego set; he bought this using his Christmas money and put it together in one short afternoon.  Two days later both him and Alec spent hours in the afternoon playing with all of the Ninjago sets.

While I do not enjoy cleaning out the turtle tanks it's always fun to watch this guy try and escape... we've renamed him Houdini.

These amazing Heath cookies are a new family favorite (the recipe will be on the blog soon)!

On Tuesday my boys got all of this schoolwork done in under two hours!!  I just love days when the work flows and we have a whole afternoon stretching out in front of us.

We have been having the best time checking on this brook in it's various states of freezing this week. It's so fascinating seeing the way the ice forms and how the water moves under and around it all.

Having help in the kitchen is always one of my favorites! Luckily this boy is always game to lending a hand-- even if he has no intention of eating the casserole we're making.  He did ask to make his own "cake" and settled on making a dirt cake with golden Oreos.

None of my boys are very big on writing and it's often like pulling teeth to get them to write.  So I was thrilled when Evan sat down to write his story fairly willingly!

My most favorite time of the week though had to be the art class that Evan, Alec and I took with a bunch of our homeschooling friends.  We found a local art studio that offers monthly homeschooling classes and we made these adorable penguins!  We can not wait to go back and try another class.

How was your week?

    1. They are just the sweetest. It was so neat to see kids aged from 4 through teen (OK and two of us moms) creating these birds.

    1. Right?! He asked me early in the week if it was possible since he likes those better than traditional Oreos and I thought sure.. we'll make a sand cake!
