Sentence a Day-- September

I know I do weekly wrap- ups and I often summarize our month with the What's Up Wednesday posts but I think I most enjoy the Sentence a Day posts because they really show me at a glance all that we manage to see and do in a month!



September was a buy month too with our family vacation and the start of school.

1.  Alec and I prepared for some company over the long labor day weekend by whipping up a chocolate strawberry trifle cake.



2. We had a fabulous day at the lake with our friends!



3.  Swimming, boating, jumping off the bridge, baking cupcakes.. a perfect way to laze away labor day!





4.  We had a great day at the lake at our karate homeschool not back to school picnic.




5.  Just a typical day in the life of a homeschooling family; where we got a "new" class pet turtle.




6.  We began packing for our Niagara Falls trip, ran a few last minute errands, and played some games.



7.  My mother and I spent quite a bit of time on the phone planning a mini vacation that we'll take later this year.

8.  We headed out in the old family truckster for Niagara falls... luckily we had better luck than the Griswolds!



9.  We hiked for a good 3 hours all around Niagara falls from one state park to the next enjoying the beautiful scenery.




10.  We toured the New York Power Vista and went to see all the fish at the Aquarium of Niagara.





11.  We went to the Buffalo zoo and walked over to Niagara falls, Canada at night to see the falls all lit up.  There were even some fireworks in honor of 9/11.







12.  We walked to Canada and had lunch at the top of the Skylon Tower then the boys went zip lining over the falls.

13.  We got soaked riding the Maid of the Mist and exploring the Cave of the Winds before heading out to tour Old Fort Niagara at the mouth of the Niagara river.







14.  We went on a boat ride down part of the Erie canal and got to see how the locks work up close and personal.


15.  We loaded up the family truckster for the long ride back home and even had time to get our grocery shopping done!

16.  I worked on my double sided Welcome Autumn/ Let it Snow porch sign.


17.  The younger boys and I went apple picking and it felt like we bought up 1/2 the store with cider, donuts, candies, mums, etc.



18.  It poured and we actually had some flash flooding so I decided it was the perfect time to stay indoors and try making some candy apples


19.  I finally finished decorating the house for fall and I just love the few new touches I purchased for the mantle.


The battery operated candle inside flickers and makes this pumpkin just beautiful at night


20.  The boys and I tried out a new fall art project using leaves and watercolors.




21.  We went for a hike with our hiking group!



22.  We had a dedication ceremony for a memorial that was made in honor of my husband's grandparents who previously passed away (in 2014 & 2017). Don't they have a beautiful final resting spot?



23.  We baked homemade apple pies after dinner and I got the help of just about everyone!



24.  We spent another quiet day at home working on schoolwork, cleaning out closets, and making apple butter.



25.  After Alec's karate class we spent a quiet day at home working on schoolwork, cleaning out closets and it was the perfect weather for making Shepard's pie.



26.  When the rain finally cleared up in the afternoon, I dragged the boys on a hike in the woods.





27.  We went bowling with some friends of ours and spent a sunny afternoon outside bike riding and walking around.




28.  We went to Mystic Aquarium and had a small family party for Evan's belated birthday.





29.  This Saturday was errand day so after eating breakfast and paying bills I went to the bank, the post office, the store, etc. then cleaned off the whole patio and started packing away garden decorations.

30.  Sunday morning I woke bright and early and made some chocolate chip strawberry bread then spent most of the day doing laundry and cleaning house.

  1. I always love these recaps too! It's such a nice way to remember our lives and the little things.
    We keep talking about going to Niagara Falls---my husband has never been there and it's so iconic.
    As for the candy apples...do you know I've never eaten one. I used to work at Rocky Mtn Chocolate factory, and I always made the caramel ones...those are definitely my fave!

    1. I prefer a caramel apple myself but my boys had never tried a candy apple either and I thought it might be fun to try making them. Niagara falls was a lot of fun.
