Virtual Refrigerator: Spray Painted T-Shirts

Evan has been asking me what else we can make with spray paint so I did a few Pinterest searches for spray paint art, spray paint crafts,  etc. and found a few that were for spray painted t-shirts.  The younger boys thought they looked really neat and wanted to give it a try.

Thanks for stopping by and joining us again this week as we host another virtual refrigerator arts and crafts link up.

This could not have been an easier project!

We bought some plain t-shirts at the local craft store and Evan wanted his to look like a galaxy so he pinched the shirt in the middle and rolled it into a spiral.

As you can see we used all sorts of spray paint; just whatever we had around the house

He then took 3 of his favorite spray paint colors-- gold, teal, and white and lightly sprayed the area all around the spiral.

When he was done we pulled the shirt flat to see the results and I have to admit it was really neat!

Alec wanted to do something similar but he wanted a shadow of Eevee in the middle of his shirt.  He drew up an outline of her and we cut the shape out of some of my sticky backed vinyl.

Once he had the vinyl in place he twirled a few spirals in the shirt and lightly sprayed around the spirals and Eevee using white spray paint.

Once we pulled it flat he thought it needed a bit more color and design so he twirled a few more spirals and used some light pink and ivory spray paint too.

We flattened the shirt out and pulled off the Eevee sticker.  He LOVED it!   He also decorated the sleeves and the back of the t-shirt the same way before we hung it to dry.

We've already washed them and the boys have worn them as well.  We used cold water with all our regular settings and saw very little fading or difference after washing.

Now without further ado I invite you to grab a "magnet" and link up your arts and crafts posts below and visit some other bloggers to see what they shared on their refrigerators.

Your art project doesn't need to be a stand alone post, nor does it need to be a tutorial.  We love day in the life posts or homeschooling wrap- ups that show art work too!

So what do you have to share with us?

  4. This is such a color paint project. The swirls make a cool design and it kind of reminds me of waves.

    1. Yeah we loved the swirly designs and I think the colors they chose to go with the black shirt were just perfect.

  5. Wow, this project turned out really really well! Funny I commented about making t-shirts when I'd just seen the water balloon art, and it turns out you had already done just that. Can't wait to share this with my daughter, and thanks for sharing on craft schooling Sunday!
