Virtual Refrigerator -- Penguin Portraits

Thanks for stopping by and joining us again this week as we host another virtual refrigerator arts and crafts link up. 


My youngest son loves penguins and I knew that offering to help him draw and paint a penguin was a surefire way to get him to agree to do some arts and crafts with me.  Imagine my surprise when all three boys agreed to paint!

First we drew our penguins:



Then we began painting the backgrounds:



As the paint dried we added more and more features:




Until we were finished and happy with our portraits.

My penguin 

Alec, age 11, made a penguin with cat ear earmuffs, a storm cloud and snow

Evan, age 10, make a penguin with a Santa hat and snow

Ian, age 13, made a penguin at the beach.

    So cute!! My daughter has another piece of balsa wood she wanted to paint something on, and I think a penguin portrait would be perfect.

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. 15 Family Restaurant Games

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. While there are many phone apps, portable gaming systems and electronic games that could occupy my kids we prefer to use the time together at restaurants to connect with one another and so we tend to play games like: Hangman--   any restaurant that has paper place mats works well for this.  We take turns picking  a word and drawing our hangman stand then take turns calling out letters and seeing if we can solve the puzzle.   Tic Tac Toe-- This works best with pen on paper place mats but we have played making a grid with butter knives ...

Things That Make Me Laugh

I loved the challenge of this week's list for our 26 lists link up.  I don't know about you but I really need to laugh more lately.  It's such a great stress reliever. 1.  Books-- I love a good funny book that makes me laugh out loud.  I haven't read one in a while but if you have any recommendations I'm all ears.  The last book I can remember making me laugh was the Un-Honeymooners. 2  The boys being silly. 3.  Watching shows like America's Funniest Videos or Family Feud. 4. My husband.  Most people don't realize it but he's actually pretty funny and often makes me laugh. 5.  Whenever my sisters/ family get together and we get to reminiscing (particularly if my Aunt Elaine is around) we end up laughing so hard at all the old family stories that we are all in tears by the end of the night.  It's fabulous. 6. Favorites & Highlights from December; One Sentence a Day

 We had a lovely, if cold, December. Our Christmas was very quiet and low-key and despite my reluctance to celebrate this year we had lots of fun with family.... but I'm already starting to petition for a trip away for next Christmas.   1. So thankful for some great books from the library.  Gym, spent my day doing laundry, working on my painting, and reading. 10,169 steps.   2. So thankful the snow in the forecast was just rain today!  Evan and I headed to Nichol's for a shadow day in the rain, it was fun and informative, then I spent my afternoon running errands. 7,802 steps.  another library pick up!  3. So thankful I talked myself into going for a walk after lunch that turned into a mini hike.  Gym, then I spent my morning in the kitchen cooking up so many things; it was beautiful out so I squeezed in a walk after lunch and then worked on the blog until dinner. 10,521 steps.   homemade granola bars whole wheat everything bag...

10 on the 10th; January 2026

 Yay! Marsha's brought her 10 on the 10th back and I loved this month's prompt! Some months she asks us 10 questions and some month she just gives us a prompt. Both are fun to answer.    Oh I just knew this prompt was going to be so easy! Without listing crazy things I'd never do, I actually have had quite a few goals and things to do on my mind for years that I keep pushing off and pushing off because I really don't want to do them so here are 10 things I probably won't do this year (that I really probably should). Most relate to our house which is now 22 years old... 1. Repaint the baseboards/trim & doors (or any room of the house at that)-- our white trim and doors are really showing their age and use but the thought of actually getting down and repainting them is daunting so it's a task I keep putting off. 2.
