Bling on the Holidays Blog Hop & Silver Sparkled Ball Ornament

A Very Sparkly Craft Blog Hop

On the first Monday of each month, a group of DIY and crafty bloggers join forces to bring you the #BlingontheCrafts blog hop. Each blogger creates a glittery, sparkly, shiny, shimmery, sequined, or "blingy" craft to share that goes with a monthly theme.

December's theme is Holidays. Each blogger chooses their own craft to make as long as it shines and is holiday themed.

I chose to make a Christmas ornament for my craft.  I just love Christmas ornaments and try out new crafts with them each December.

For this simple craft I used my hot glue gun, a sytrofoam ball, a bag of crystal vase fillers, and a thin ribbon.

I started by hot gluing one of the crystal vase fillers onto my Styrofoam ball then I began gluing other pieces of the vase filler around the first one; trying to keep them as close to one another as I could.

I realized about half- way through the second row that part of the Stryofoam was going to show through between the beads and wished I had thought to paint the ball with a metallic acrylic paint first.

I continued gluing pieces on until I had just a small space left and then I used the tip of the scissors to poke a small hole.  I tied my ribbon in a loop, made a knot at the bottom and put lots of hot glue on the end.  Using the same scissors I pushed the glued end of the knot into the hole I made in the ornament and set it aside to dry.

Luckily, I found that once I had the whole ball done and it was on the tree I actually liked the white spaces and the way the light sparkles off the beads.

If you'd like to participate next month, you can request to join our Bling on the Crafts Facebook group.

  6. Oh wow, I really admire your patience. Gluing all these crytsals to the styrofoam ball must have taken a while...and all those hot glue threads, lol ;-) I know they cost me some nerve. I love how sparkly your ball ornament is and I sure would love to add one or several to my tree...

    1. I was actually surprised that I didn't have that many hot glue threads; I usually dread those! I crafted this ornament while watching TV so the time involved didn't really bother me but.. yeah it did take quite a while.
