My Fall Favorites!

This week I'm linking up with The Blended Blog for another TBB Asks.  This month we're talking all about our fall favorites.

I am a New England girl and there is nothing I love more than the fall.  The colors of the trees, the cool crisp air, fresh picked apples, hiking, and cozy nights by the fire.... that, to me, is heaven!

1.  Favorite fall sweet treat?  My mom's apple pie!  (Here is a link to the recipe).  The whole family loves this pie and even my boys help make them.  Typically we make 3-6 pies each fall and freeze some for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and even as gifts.  Though I do have to say Alec made some apple spiced cupcakes with caramel buttercream frosting this week and these might just bump apple pie out of first place... maybe.

2.  Red, yellow, or green apples? Red!  Red delicious, Honeycrisp and Cortlands are all my favorites.

3. Favorite fall sport to play? None... I do not enjoy sports though I do love hiking in the fall.

4.  Best drink for fall? Apple cider. Cold and fresh from the apple orchard is best.

We watched our orchard make their cider a time or two; looks yucky and messy but tastes delicious.

5.  Favorite fall activity? Leaf peeping!  Whether I'm looking at leaves while driving down the road, hiking in the woods, kayaking around the lake or biking the back roads I just love looking at all the pretty fall colors everywhere.

6.  Must have fall purchase? A new hoodie or sweater.  I am always adding to my collection of cozy sweaters and hoodies.

7.  Pumpkins: pick your own or store bought? Usually store bought. We enjoy picking our own but it is much more convenient to buy at the store.   My boys used to enjoy pumpkin carving but the last two years no one has wanted to give it a go.  Here are some older pictures...

8.  Real or fake pumpkins? Both!  I do tend to lean a bit more towards fake pumpkins because they last longer.  I just bought these darling green and white ones at Target last week because they went perfectly with our new living room wall color.

9.  Favorite Halloween costume? I hate dressing up! I love seeing my kiddos in costume but I have never been a huge fan of dressing up.  My favorite costume I ever had was probably the orange crayon costume my mom made for me.  She made so many of our costumes over the year but that was the first one I remember her making specifically for me and that made it all the more special.  She is an amazing seamstress and we had some killer costumes over the years.

Here's a look back at some of my boys' costumes over the years..

10.  College football or NFL? Neither.  The only footballs games I have ever watched were when I was in high school and knew the kids playing; even then I probably only made it to a few.

11. Fall or Halloween decor? Fall!!  I am not a big Halloween fan but I do love all the apples, leaves, and pumpkins.

12.  Raking leaves or no leaves to rake? Amazingly enough we rarely have leaves to rake out of our yard.  That does not stop us from collecting leaves though or making leaf skeletons!

13.  Favorite soup? Butternut squash soup. I do love most soups and stews but I have  a butternut squash soup that just makes me think of fall.

14.  Favorite fall candle scent? Anything apply and spicy!  I love cinnamon scents and anything that makes my house smell like apple pie, apple crisp or fresh baked apples is the best fall scent.

15.  Love or hate pumpkin spice? Somewhere in the middle.  I enjoy pumpkin spiced foods (especially the pumpkin spice frosted mini wheats!)  but I can't eat everything pumpkin spiced flavored.

16.  Short booties or tall boots?  Tall boots I guess. Though I will typically stick with my flip flops until the first snowfall!

17.  Favorite Halloween candy?  Reese's Peanut butter cups or Kit Kats

18.  Pumpkin spice latte-- yes or no? Nope; I don't drink coffee at all.

19.  Hayride or corn maze? Both!  I do enjoy both but it's just not fall to me until we've visited a corn maze (Here is a link to our trip just a few weeks ago).  The hayrides are fun but the hay gets itchy and bothers me after just a little bit.

20.  Favorite fall TV show? We recently got rid of cable/ satellite but I am hoping to still watch American Housewife.  She really makes me laugh.  We enjoy lots of fall shows and what we watch will all depend on what is available for streaming.

What would make your list of favorites?

    1. I was so excited to see those and knew they'd be just perfect. I buy a butternut squash soup (it comes in a carton with an easy pour spout) and I add a bunch of mixed vegetables (typically broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, and maybe even corn) to it and let it simmer for a few hours so all the flavors meld together.

    1. Oh, I know I am well in the minority by not drinking coffee but I just never acquired a taste for it. LOL.
