Charleston Harbor Boat Cruise

We took a boat cruise around Charleston Harbor.  It was a hot day and the breeze off the water felt so nice and cool.  Our guide was so knowledgeable about the area and all of it's history that we learned so much!

It was a great way to see and learn more about Charleston.

Learning about the history of the churches of the area; see how the steeple is leaning?  This particular church survived a massive earthquake and has been leaning ever since.

Fort Sumter

Remnants of fort Moultrie on Sullivan's Island; the fort used before they build Sumter

We happened upon this overturned boat

Luckily it appeared that no one was on board and the coast guard was there helping

The Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge is a cable stayed bridge that connects Charleston to Mount Pleasant; it was completed both under budget and in less time than contracted.

  3. I was just at Charleston in April and took a carriage ride to learn more about the history. I didn't know they had boat rides too. That would have been fun as well!

    1. We thought about a carriage ride but I was afraid it would be too hot. We had no idea about the boat rides either but we were literally right next door at the aquarium and saw the boats heading out so we went to check it out. I am so glad we did!

  4. I had to pop over and see more about your Charleston trip. I would have loved to have taken a boat ride around the harbor. Most of our time was spend on Kiawah with a few trips into Charleston, but it wasn't enough time. I guess we'll have to go back!

    1. I told my husband that I'd like to go back too but in the early spring or late fall when it's a bit cooler and we can really walk the old city and see all the mansions, features, and just enjoy walking around more with cooler temperatures. I felt like we enjoyed and saw so little.
