Children's Christmas Book List

Every year we pick a stack of Christmas books to read and we try to keep them different each year (unless someone requests a re-read of an old favorite).  Each year I'm amazed by the wonderful books we find to enjoy together.

1. My Penguin Osbert-- an adorable story about a boy who asks Santa for a real- live penguin

2. How Santa Got His Job-- we've read this many times.  It's all about how Santa found his job after trying out many that did not suit him.

3, Christmas Farm-- About a lady who decides to grow Christmas trees and starts a  tree farm.

4. Christmas Morning-- A story written like The House that Jack Built where each page builds on the last.  I was pleasantly surprised that my kids didn't think it was too babyish.

5. The Naughty List-- A fun and funny chapter book for tweens about one girl's attempts to get her brother removed from the naughty list and hilarity ensues when she finds Santa living in a trailer.  The North Pole is protected by Navy Seals (actual seals!) and an army of snowmen.

6. Christmas Is...-- A story about all the symbols of the season.

7. Santa Clause The World's Number One Toy Expert-- Santa spends all year researching, playing and testing out toys to become the world's toy expert.

8. OH What a Christmas-- When Santa looses his reindeer in mid- flight he must use animals from the barn to complete his deliveries.

9. How to Catch Santa--A brother and sister come up with various ways that you can try and catch Santa when he comes on Christmas eve.

10. Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree-- When the tree is too big for Mr. Willowby's house they cut off the top and toss it outside; where it becomes someone else's tree.  When the tree is too big they have to cut the top off and toss it aside... and it goes on and on.

11. Wish to be A Christmas Tree-- One tree in the lot is sad to never have been a Christmas tree and all the animals that rely on him for food and shelter try to cheer him up.

12. Merry Moosey Christmas-- When Rudolph decides he wants a year off from delivering gifts he has to find a replacement; a moose with a GPS, headlamp, and other resourceful ideas.

13. Christmas-- When brother and sister Koala fight and break all of the family's ornaments they are sure that Christmas is ruined for good until they find some help.

14. Welcome, Comfort-- A story about one boy who does not fit in at his new school with anyone but the janitor; and the janitor has a pretty big secret!

15. The Christmas Wish-- A story about a little girl who wants to be one of Santa's elves.

16. A Christmas Like Helen's-- What Christmas was like before electricity and modern times.

17. An Orange for Frankie-- Set in the time of the great depression, Frankie's family is preparing for Christmas eagerly awaiting his father and his yearly gift of oranges for them all.
