Taking a Family Hike Through Purgatory Chasm

It was another sunny day here (well, it was sunny by the END of the day anyway) and so we headed out with the boys for a fun family hike.



The boys have been asking me to go back to Purgatory Chasm and they like it best when we hike with dad because he doesn't make them stay on the marked trails like I do.

We hiked one side of the Chasm and stopped to watch a group of fire fighters running a drill across the chasm.  It was neat to see all the roped slung across and tied from tree to tree.  We also got to watch them attach their lines, hooks, and cables up to it and ferry supplies across.  We even got to see them send a guy across!

We finished hiking along the top of the chasm and followed some other trails out to the brook and waterfall.  We stopped for some lunch and then decided to try hiking along the brook to see where it started.

We noticed unusual shaped trees, some more "green" trees, red rocks, an area of fur (where we think a deer must have been attacked), and lots of parts of the path where the water must have been running when it was high melt/ rain time.

We hiked out the chasm, played in the playground for a bit and then headed back into the chasm.  We hiked through the chasm and went out the other side, stopping to walk through the corn crib and fat man's misery.  By this time the boys were wiped out, hot and whiny.  We offered to buy ice cream and just like magic everyone was smiling and raring to go.  We ended our trip with a few slides down the sliding rock.

    This brought back so many great memories! Our family hasn't been to Purgatory Chasm in years!! Our homeschool group made a few trips there, but we weren't able to make those outings. We went as a family once and I still remember that tight crevice. lol. I think I also remember getting a gnat stuck in my eye! :-O lol.

    Looks like you all enjoyed a bright sunny day there. Thanks for sharing!

      Aw, you are welcome! My boys love to give me a heart attack there... they often barrel right through at top speed with no thought to heights or falling. :)

 Happy April Fool's day to you! It's the first Monday of the month and time for Prime Purchases with Tanya.  I was doing so well with my Amazon purchases right up until the end of the month when we decided to host Easter dinner at our house and I felt like I "needed" so much not having any Easter decorations at all.  I bought a few new cardigans for this "in between" season and really love this cable knit one so much it's all I can do to keep myself from buying a second one! Alec's Accepted Student Day at JWU

Last spring when Alec started his college planning I was pretty surprised that he only wanted to visit 2 colleges out of state (he visited a few in-state with his high school culinary class).  He ultimately decided to apply to just the 2 colleges we visited-- Johnson and Wales University (JWU) and the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). Both ranked as the #1 & #2 schools in the U.S for culinary and baking/pastry arts. Day in the Life: Friday Favorites

 I decided to document last Friday for today's Friday Favorites post. I hardly ever document a day in the life anymore now that my boys are grown and mostly on their own. But I knew we had a pretty full day and thought it might be fun.  These are some of my favorite posts to read and I think I did a pretty great job remembering to document and take pictures for the whole day! 5:00 wake up and I allow myself to blog, read emails, etc. until 5:30 5:30 get up, get dressed for the gym, put away my laundry from the night before, make the bed. 5:45 head downstairs to make Alec's lunch (1/2 way though he came to the balcony to tell me he wasn't going to school since he wasn't feeling well-- he's 18 and allowed to make this call himself).  I decided to make a salad, some chicken salad, hard boil some eggs, and cut up all the fruit since we had just done groceries after dinner last night and none of that had been done yet. I emptied, reloaded, and restarted the dishwasher.
