Digging – These views!!



 



 

Weeding– We weeded 2 bags of clothes from Alec's closet as he's outgrown so much of his clothes. Hopefully we can find replacements for most of it... though I'm not sure there is a whole lot we're going to find with even longer inseams. 

Enjoying – Time spent exploring with the family.

Eating/Drinking –All the vacation junk food.

Shopping for – This week we're shopping for souvenirs only but once home we'll be buying Alec clothes.  He also needs to find some comfy size 15 or perhaps 16 sized shoes as his toes are poking out of this old size 14 sneakers. Plus I have a list of things I want to get for his Greece trip that will be here before I know it.

    That scenery! I saw most of that when I was a child. I would have a different and more appreciative perspective now. Looks like you've had some good food! Alec's clothing and shoes will be challenging - you probably have to go the online route.

    Good job with sorting Alec's closet, my youngest is saying she needs new clothes but I know she hasn't grown that much.

      I wouldn't either as we learned a lot of films are shot in these or the surrounding areas-- particularly westerns and alien planet settings.

      He really is! We have always struggled to find clothes/shoes for him being so long and rather skinny besides. It seems like clothing companies assume if you're tall you're also big.

When my boys were little and we'd take them out to eat I kept a small bag of toys in the car to grab on our way into any restaurant.  That way they would be entertained and a bit quieter while we enjoyed our meal. Now that the boys are older we don't keep a bag of toys handy but we do have few games we use to keep the boys occupied if they start getting bored or squirmy while we're waiting for our food or our check. Ian is starting a new film study unit in our homeschool.  He loves watching movies and when I found the Thinking Tree Film Study Journal I just knew Ian would love the opportunity to watch movies as part of his homeschooling day. I set to work writing up a list of movies I thought he'd enjoy watching.  These are just some of the movies I found that I thought he'd enjoy watching as part of our history lessons. 1.   Secretariat -- A story about a horse that won the Triple crown in 1973; the first American Thoroughbred to win in 25 years. 2.   Captain Philips - A movie about the 2009 hijacking of a US Container ship by a crew of pirates. 3.  Sully- Based on the "Miracle on the Hudson" this movie takes us through the plane that landed in the Hudson river. 4.   A League of their Own - A fictional story of the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943 5.   Gung- Ho -- When the Japanese re-open an American auto plant the wo...

Favorite TV Shows Growing Up in the 80's and early 90's

Do you remember the TGIF lineups on Friday nights? I can remember planning sleepovers and time with friends around TV Show lineups of our favorite shows... or else trying to set the VCR to record our favorite shows if we weren't going to be home. And through the years I had SO MANY favorites! Growing pains aired in 1985 which put me around age 8 and it stayed on the air until I was 15 or so; I'm pretty sure most people in my age group watched mostly for Kirk Cameron and all his antics.  I still have a soft spot for family sit-coms!  The Facts of Life aired when I was just 2  and stayed on the air until I was 11 so I'm sure the episodes I remember so fondly were either some of the later ones and then reruns shown later on when I was old enough to watch from the beginning. Highlights and Favorites in April; One Sentence a Day

 We had a really lovely April and the month just flew by so quickly. Our weather is still all over the place but I still get out and enjoy the sunshine whenever I can.   1.  So thankful I finished my latest painting and it turned out so well.  Hiking with Evan, lots of blog work, Ian started our latest patio project and I finished my latest painting. 10,284 steps.  I changed after hiking Ian started the patio for our generator 2.  So thankful for a hot shower after working outside.  Gym, school with Evan, haircut, then Evan, Ian, and I spent the afternoon working on the patio; it was freezing after being in the 70's yesterday it didn't even reach 40 today! 5,833 steps. I never even changed out of my gym clothes  3. So thankful the backache I went to bed with lessened a lot by morning.  Gym, laundry made granola, granola bars, a large salad, then spent my afternoon reading, blogging, and ended my night at the grocery store. 10,025 steps. ...

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup/Heath Cake

Ian always requests some combination of peanut butter/chocolate for his birthday cake and this year he added that he wanted some Heath in there too. We settled on a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and I added a layer of Heath bits in between the layers as well on top of the cake then finished the decorations off with some Reese's minis.    It was a huge hit!  I used my standard/favorite chocolate cake recipe:   For the Cake: 2 cups flour 2 cups sugar 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 2 tsp. baking soda 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 3 large eggs 1 cup buttermilk (We used 1 cup of milk with 1 Tablespoon of white vinegar mixed together) 1 cup warm water 1/3 cup vegetable oil 2 tsp. vanilla extract.   For the Frosting: 2 sticks butter, at room temperature 1 cup  creamy conventional peanut butter  (all natural peanut butter gives it a weird texture and taste) 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 Tablespoons milk (whatever kind you prefer...
