Recipes We've Been Trying Lately: Winter 2025-2026
We've had a delicious couple of months and while I feel like I've mostly been making many of the same old family favorite there have been some new recipes we've tried here and there. As always I did my best to keep a running tab of those new recipes from around the web that we've been trying... and often giving our own spin to!
I made this peanut butter/chocolate granola for my husband; I did skip step one and just mixed the oats in with all the other dry ingredients before combining them with the wet then toasting it altogether in the oven at once at 350 for 20 minutes.
Then I made this chai flavored granola for myself-- though I only used the seasonings and used my typical oats, coconut, seeds, & nuts.
I made this sun-dried tomato turkey breast but instead of marinating the meat and then cooking it, I poured everything into the crock pot and let it cook on low all day. It smelled amazing! It had really good flavor too.
We made this turkey brine for Thanksgiving; it smelled so good! I had to divvy it up into 2 pans since I didn't have one large enough to hold it all. We all agreed it was the best turkey we'd had yet (though we were unsure whether it was the brine or our organic/farm fresh/ CSA turkey).
Alec made us this Chiabatta bread recipe for Thanksgiving. It was yummy! I forgot to take a photo of just his rolls but you can see one on the edge of my plate. It was nice and crusty like an artisan bread roll but had a hint of sour dough taste.
I whipped up some of this whole wheat self-rising flour to make 2 ingredient WW bagels. I had to adjust my 2 ingredient recipe for moisture content and cooking time using whole wheat flour but it definitely did rise very well.
We had some porgy fish and I found this easy air fryer recipe; they were delicious!
Alec made us these Easy Almond Croissants for Christmas breakfast. He used his favorite croissant recipe (from an actual cookbook) and followed the directions on this blog to make the marzipan topping. He omitted the rum from the sugar bath and instead of cutting the croissant in half to spread the filling we just flattened the croissants slightly and put a generous portion on top. They were AMAZING!
Alec made this cheesecake for his birthday; it was yummy! We did top it with extra caramel sauce before serving like.
I made this homemade bread to go with the dinner he picked out; we did add other herbs (1/4 tablespoon fresh oregano in with the rosemary and then dried Italian seasoning, basil, thyme, parsley and 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese too). It tasted a lot like focaccia bread.
Alec and my husband got me to make this Orange chicken for all the guys one night; I had my husband cook up the chicken but I made the sauce and they all said it was delicious.
I made these easy no-knead rolls to go with dinner one night; they were easy! I did double the amounts to make 16 rolls across 2 cookie sheets.

Being vegetarian, the bread and rolls were most interesting to me, but it all looks so good!
