Weigh- in Wednesday: 10 Thing I Will and Will Not Do Shed the Weight

I do realize it's only Tuesday and not Wednesday yet but tomorrow is my regularly scheduled What's Up Wednesday post and while I considered skipping my Weigh-in Wednesday post altogether this week I just couldn't do it!  Partly because I weighed-in on Saturday morning and found the numbers down to 163 and that felt too good not to share.

I was honestly amazed the numbers went down at all since I felt like I had been eating so much junk with my Valentine's chocolates and just having one of those weeks where I felt so darn hungry all the time!

I haven't weighed in since but that's mostly because my husband and I went on a very long all-day date on Saturday and we definitely did not eat the best.  And you know what?  I don't regret it at all!

I made sure to go right back to healthy eating habits on Sunday!

But knowing my numbers will most likely be higher this week after my splurge over the weekend I've been thinking about those things that I would and would not do to shed the weight.  Basically I've been thinking about just how badly do I want to meet this "magic number" goal on the scale and what am I willing to do to achieve it?

Here's what I've come up with so far:

1. I WILL happily swap out riced cauliflower for actual rice; I'm rather surprised to find that I actually prefer the cauliflower anyway! Especially when I heat it in a skillet with some seasonings and get the rice a nice toasty brown.  YUM!

2. I WILL listen to my body and stop eating when I am full.

3. I WILL keep trying to reach my 10,000 steps goal each day and be more aware of getting my body moving.

4. I WILL remember that every little baby step in the right direction adds up and big changes can come with small little incremental steps.

5. I WILL remember that each day, each meal, each snack is an opportunity to start again if need be-- one bad choice does not derail all the other good choices that have come before and WILL come after it.

Sunday morning's meal after splurging on Saturday

6. I WILL  and keep logging those scale and non- scale victories to battle that voice of defeat in my head.

7. I WILL keep drinking as much water as I can each day; it's my preferred drink of choice anyway!

8. I WILL keep filling my grocery cart with fresh fruits and vegetable and trying new dishes to keep my meals and my eating habits interesting, appealing, and tasty.

I'm now that person that brings fruit or salad to every gathering so I have something healthy to eat.

9. I WILL focus on trying to keep my stress level down and get plenty of sleep as I know both are triggers for overeating and for the body to store excess fat.

10. I WILL continue working on finding that balance between healthy living and enjoying life.

But I really must remember:

1.  I will NOT swap out my whole grain pasta for zoodles or spaghetti squash-- I did this a lot when I first started WW and I hated both alternatives and felt like I was truly depriving myself.

An entire meal I convinced myself to eat despite not really liking it.

2. To build off of #1; I will NOT eat any foods I really dislike just for the sake of being healthy.  For me this means no bananas, no avocados, no kale, etc.  There are so many foods I really do like that it seems silly to force myself to eat things I don't enjoy.

3. I will NOT start skipping meals in order to try starving the weight off-- I have battled a few eating disorders in my life and this is a real slippery slope for me.  I know I need to eat when I'm hungry and just focus on making the healthiest choice possible.

4. I will NOT compare myself to anyone else-- this one is hard but I know deep down that this is MY weight loss journey and it's not going to be like anyone else's.

5. I will NOT let my lifestyle goals get in the way of actually enjoying life-- so I will say yes to lunches out with my mother and dinner dates with my husband.  I will do my best to eat healthy when I can and not beat myself up for those times I can't or don't.

The ice cream "whirlie" I ate on Saturday that I do not regret at all.

6. I will NOT let myself go hungry anymore. I feel like I've spent much of my life starving and being so HUNGRY that I refuse to keep doing that just to shed pounds.  I must remember that this is what zero point foods are for.

7. I will NOT punish my body with over exercising-- when I'm hurt or sick or run down I will rest.

8. I will NOT eat so much of a yummy food that I feel stuffed or sick; I have worked really hard to listen to my body and eat when hungry and stop when full.

My birthday cake from 2021-- dark chocolate/ raspberry that I made sure to share with EVERYONE so I only ate 2 pieces the whole week!

9. I will NOT let those numbers on the scale define me and be so tied up in my self-worth. (Though I really struggle with this one so if anyone has suggestions I'm all ears!).

10. I will NOT drive my family and friends nuts by always talking about my food, my eating habits, my "points"

  1. Congrats on the weight loss! As for a suggestion for number 9, I would say that try to tie your self worth more to the people around who love you and whom you love. Your husband, boys, parents, siblings, friends don't care about what size you are (unless your size is severely impacting your health)- they are happy to be around you and spend time with you. YOU are what matters, not what your body looks like. I know it's easier to say than to do ;). With regard to number ten- that is good to keep in mind as well. When I gained some weight during the pandemic, I know I talked to everyone around me too much about it. We are all works in progress!!

  3. These are great wills and will nots. I don't like fake pasta either! Maybe I should try the whole grain version instead!

    1. Even my boys don't mind the swap; we all eat 100% whole grain pasta now.

  5. When I did WW years ago, I would go weigh in and that evening, I would eat what I wanted. Then the next day I was back at the WW Way. You have to do whatever helps you to keep you from getting bored and falling off the wagon altogether. COngrats on the new number.

  8. I can relate hard to this, and I would be so excited to see 163 right now. Great job! I am jealous!!!!! lol I am so with you on zoodles. They are the wrong texture for me. I cannot with the zoodles.

  9. I love this! I worked my butt off to lose 40 lbs last year, and I can relate to this so much. There are a lot of right and wrong habits to associate with eating, but the bottom line is if I deprive myself, it won't be sustainable. It's all about balance!

  10. You have really got the important points down Joanne. I was just listening to an interesting video about this and the doctor's key point was it all has to do with our digestion. Once that is good, your body can use the nutrients the way it's supposed to. Maybe that's why your numbers were down?
I will try to share the video in my email later this week in case you're interested,

    1. Thank you! It really can be such a vicious cycle.. I get annoyed the weight won't budge and then I just want to stuff my face. LOL. BUT I've been doing well with resisting that urge.
