BBQ Chex Mix

My family really enjoys eating Chex mix and I love that in just under 10 minutes tops I can make a huge batch that will feed us for days. However, I tend to get bored making the same thing over and over again so I like to try experimenting with different flavor combinations.

I knew that BBQ is one flavor most of us enjoy and thought that might add a nice flavor boost to our typical *healthier* version of Chex mix.

1 Package Cheddar Goldfish

1/2 Box Rice Chex

1/2 Box Corn Chex

1/2 Package Bagel Chips; usually we buy garlic flavor

A few handfuls of pretzels

3 Tablespoons butter

3 Tablespoons lemon juice

2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce

1 1/2 tsp seasoned salt

3/4 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp onion powder

3 Tablespoons BBQ Sauce

2 Cups Gardetto's Rye Chips

In a giant glass bowl I mixed Chex, goldfish, bagel chips, and pretzels.  Then melted the butter in a small glass bowl adding in lemon juice, Worcestershire Sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and BBQ sauce.

I poured the sauce mix over the cracker mix and gave it a nice stir to combine.  Then I microwaved the bowl on high for 2 minutes at a time (for a total of 6 minutes); giving the mixture a good stir each time.

I poured the bowl out on a piece of parchment paper (or tin foil) to cool off and mixed in the rye chips.

It was pack full of flavor and my family just loved it.

    1. Aw, that's sweet! I try to mix it up every now and then and have tried out several different flavors for making Chex mix. So far I don't think we've found one that we don't like.

  5. Wait, you can microwave this?! Does it all stay crunchy? I still don't understand how pouring liquid on everything doesn't make it all a big bowl of mush. That's why I've been so hesitant to try it! I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and make one of these mixes. I can imagine that after it works the first time, there is no looking back.

    1. Yep, I have always made my Chex mix in the microwave. The heat cooks out most of the liquid so once you lay it out cool it off to room temperature everything crunches right back up and is often crunchier than it started out like (that's why we add the Rye chips after cooking; they were so hard when we used to mix them in before cooking).
