Friday Favorites: The Week We Did All That Reading
What a rainy, dreary week! We did have a few bits of sun here and there which we made sure to take full advantage of but we had a thunderstorm just about every single day!
We didn't have any plans on Friday but I asked the boys to get ready for us to go on an early morning hike before the heat of the day had settled in.
Our lake was being treated for weeds and while they say it is safe to go swimming we typically wait a few days anyway. This means we spent most of the day inside or hanging out reading.
I cooked up burgers and hot dogs on the grill with french fries/ butternut squash fries & salad.
It was a rainy day on Saturday which was actually a good thing as we need rain. My husband was off at work making a new bumper for his truck while Ian went to work with his grandfather. I did stop in to eat lunch with my husband but other than that spent much of the day doing laundry, cleaning out the fridge, cooking, and reading.
We had grilled teriyaki chicken, pasta salad, and salad for Dinner.
We had a beautiful start to our day on Sunday with sunny skies and mild temperatures. Ian headed off fishing while my husband went back to work on his bumper. My in-laws stopped in midday for a visit and we sat around on the patio catching up. In the late afternoon I brought the boys to my husband's shop. We got ice cream and helped him clean up.
For dinner we roasted potatoes in the oven and started cooking steaks on the grill to serve with salad when a huge thunderstorm came ripping through our area dumping tons of rain and hail on us. We ended up finishing up the steaks in the oven as it just didn't feel safe to be outside even covered under the deck. It was so dark in the house! Thankfully we didn't lose power and the storm passed fairly quickly.
I headed out grocery shopping first thing Monday morning just picking up a few essentials knowing we'd be back later in the week to stock up for the weekend. I spent most of the day on the phone with my sister and my mother.
Ben was working late so I whipped up a double batch of waffles with some bacon and fresh cut fruit for dinner.
We had another rainy day Tuesday. We debated about going to Alec's karate class, which started back up this week but between needing masks, a full uniform, and the heat we decided to hold off. I spent part of the day baking cookies (our favorite ones yet; recipe coming soon!) and then the boys and I worked together to clean the downstairs.
The sun came out for just a bit and we went for a walk to the state park and back.
For dinner we had yogurt marinated chicken, corn on the cob, vegetables, and salad.
The boys and I spent part of our day outside reading on Wednesday when the sun made a small appearance. We tried to go for a hike later in the afternoon but just as we arrived at our favorite hiking place it began to rain. The skies remained dark and stormy for the whole rest of the day.
For dinner we had Shake & Bake pork chops, egg noodles, fresh green beans from our Misfit Markets box, and salad.
I woke up early on Thursday and headed to the grocery store to buy all our supplies for the holiday weekend. After putting them away and preparing a few foods for the week I convinced the boys to go kayaking. It was the first sunny day we'd had since Friday!
After our ride and some lunch, Evan and I sat outside reading for a bit and then we went for a walk around the neighborhood and spent our afternoon at the cottage with family.
We had tacos (for the boys)/ nachos (for my husband)/ taco salad (for me) for dinner.I just cut up some tomatoes, lettuce, and brown meat and they make up what they want.
