Love To Learn: Getting Ready for High School,

We're wrapping up our school year; each of my boys only has one subject left to finish up!  Every year as we start putting our books away and turning to field trips, crafts, science experiments and hands on fun we also start looking ahead to the next year and planning what we want to cover.

This year my oldest son is heading into high school and while I am confident in our decision to remain a homeschooling family I'd be lying if I said that I am not at all nervous about it.

I remember feeling this same way when my oldest began middle school.  I was nervous I wasn't going to prepare him well enough for high school and now here we are with me worrying that I might not prepare him well enough for college or life when high school is over.

Here is how I handled our change into middle school:

  1. What a timely post for me. Our boy will be starting high school in a few weeks and I am trying to figure out what needs to make it happen as smoothly as possible. I will come back to read this when I have the time to give it my full attention. Thanks for always sharing the good stuff! ;0D

    1. You're welcome! I hope it helps. I read a lot of homeschooling blogs and talked to a few moms that have graduated homeschoolers in our state and then together my son and I figured out what we wanted to do.

  2. It's interesting to hear what some of the high school homeschool requirements are for you guys. Our only requirement down here is for a portfolio review by a certified teacher or to go take the standardized tests at the local public schools.

    1. As far as I can tell we don't have homeschool graduation requirements; most homeschool families go directly to the colleges their students are interested in attending and go by their admission requirements. Some (like me) use the state guidelines that the public schools are required to adhere to. Some truly don't seem to worry about it either way...

  3. I always feel better when I have a plan mapped out too, the not knowing what to expect is what makes me anxious. It sounds like you guys have a great plan!

    1. Yeah, having no plan or no idea what to expect makes me extremely anxious. Once I had a rough plan written out I felt so much better.
