An Easy Stuffed French Toast Recipe
We haven't had stuffed French toast in ages but I remembered my boys enjoying it tremendously! While my husband was out of town earlier this week and I was looking for a quick, easy meal that all the boys would eat I remembered this family favorite.
It's so simple to make and the flavor combinations are endless.
I start by gathering my ingredients:
1 loaf of bread (our loaf had 14 slices)
1 package cream cheese, softened
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
Optional-- 3 Tablespoons jam or jelly (we used Blackberry all fruit spread)
2 large eggs
1 cup cold water
1/2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla extract
non stick cooking spray
I began by mixing together the filling. I added cream cheese, sugar, cinnamon and jam to a small glass bowl and combined.
Then I spread the mixture on half the bread slices. Then top with another slice of bread to make a sandwich with the sweetened cream cheese inside.
I set my sandwiches aside and mix up the batter. In dish I mixed up the egg, water, flour, and vanilla.
After heating up my griddle and spraying it with non- stick cooking spray I dunked each sandwich in the egg mixture and heated them up until they were nice and golden brown on each side.
We serve them with butter, syrup and usually some fruit salad, bacon or sausage. There is nothing like slicing into the French toast and finding a nice warm, sweetened, creamy center.
