Friday Favorites-- Cirque De Soleil Week

We had a fabulous week! The weather was shining most days and we got so much done.  We went on a few hikes and walks, went to see a show and enjoyed each lazy day of summer to it's fullest.

We lucked out and managed to get a short 45 minute hike in with our group between rainstorms on Friday.  We tried out a new trail at Westville Dam.

Saturday dawned beautiful and sunny so I lugged out my painting supplies and set to work painting two coats on the pillars in front of the house and painting all the door trim.  I was in the middle of scraping the peeling paint off our old Adirondack chairs when the whole family went over to the cottage to help put in the dock and I have to get back to it.

We had tickets to go see Cirque Du Soleil on Sunday.  The tent was amazing and the show was unbelievable!  We had the best time.  I only took a few pictures around the area before the show and vowed to put my camera away and just enjoy the show.

Inside the ten there were shopping and food areas and everything was Mexican themed after the show
Our view from our seats; the circle in the center moved and changed color and the whole stage turned.

Monday dawned bright and sunny so I quickly headed outside to paint a second coat on the patio pillars and the door trim around our garage door.  We spent the rest of the day outside.  The boys went swimming and jet skiing while I read a book and began planning for our possible Disney/Universal trip.

We went out to get ice cream sundaes for dinner from this local ice cream place we've been trying to eat at for years.  It was delicious but both Evan and I found it impossible to eat it all.

It was raining Tuesday so after Alec's karate class I convinced him it was the perfect time to try making bagels from scratch. He had picked out a recipe at the end of last week and we hadn't yet gotten around to making them.  They looked like a lot of work but they smelled so good!  I could not wait to try them.

While Alec was cooking up a storm Ian was in the basement finishing up his latest model car and starting on the next TWO kits.

It was a bright and sunny day on Wednesday and started out cool enough that I convinced the boys to go for an hour long walk along the river.  Once home we ate lunch, played Uno, and then the boys all pitched in to help mow the lawn.  Our riding lawnmower broke and all three boys got a lesson is using the push mower.  It was such a huge help as our lawn was getting to be awfully overgrown.  We noticed all of our trees were covered in caterpillars again but thanks to all the rain we've had it looks like the trees grew a fungus that's supposed to kill them; we walked pretty close to the trees and only 2 or 3 appeared to be moving at all.

We had another beautiful sunny day on Thursday and the boys and I spent much of it outside again.  The boys went swimming and I worked on scraping the peeling paint off our Adirondack chairs.

  3. It does look like a great week! The cirque de Soleil looks like it was amazing. I've never been to one. Those caterpillars look so scary. I've never seen that before.

    1. My husband and I had been to a few of their shows in Vegas and knew the boys would really enjoy it. There is a little something for everyone. We've actually had a good 3 or 4 years now where these caterpillars are eating ALL the leaves on our trees and many of our trees are dying. They are an invasive species with no natural predators and we needed a few rainy springs to grow some fungus on the trees that the caterpillars contract as they crawl through to go and make their egg nests. It was so nice to see that they're all dying; even it does make most of the trees look like something out of the Twilight zone.
